CAMBRIAN PERIOD |
Nothing much happened during this period. Though there were multicellular ocean algae, land plants (Embryophyta) had yet to evolve. The continents were still mostly barren and devoid of life except for mats of algae that grew near the coast and soil mats that grew in more arid regions. These mats, though inconspicuous, were important in the evolution of plant life.
