Permian Period |
The Permian Period saw the extinction of the Carboniferous Period way of life. During the middle of the Permian Period, the weather cooled and dried, causing the extinction of almost all of the rain forest.

Pangaea completely formed, closing off the inland sea and swamps and becoming a giant barren desert devoid of vegetation. Near the coast, gymnosperms (pines, ginkgo, and cycads) and seed ferns took over, starting the domination of seed-bearing plants that has lasted to today.
