As rainforest was replaced by deciduous forest, grasses began to move from their riverside homes to occupy open plains, though they were still rare in the Oligocene Epoch.
Other plants that existed were Sapindales in tropical areas, sedges, and cattails in wet areas and legumes, pines, and roses in deciduous areas.
